Home visits are the newest strategy for reaching people in need and was created in partnership through the Clinic of Hope staff and the community health volunteers.
These volunteers recognized that people living further away were having a harder time traveling to the clinic for care. They also noted that the prevalence of malnutrition was on the rise. With recommendations from the community health volunteers, the clinic staff choose which homes in each community would benefit from a visit.
Just last week, the Clinic of Hope staff was on the move again and this time their destination was Nan Michel, more than two hours away.
Individuals in these homes were assessed and educated on hygiene, vaccinations, malnutrition, TB and HIV, along with basic medical care to address health issues such as hypertension and diabetes. In Nan Michel, the total number of people (adults and children) seen was 38 in ten different homes.
We are so grateful and proud of the innovation, collaboration and compassion shown by the Clinic of Hope staff and the community health volunteers. This is community care in action.
