Our in-country partners are assessing damage and needs following an earthquake that hit northwest Haiti on Saturday evening. The earthquake struck close to Port-de-Paix, a city on the northwest coast of Haiti, less than 50 miles from Terre Blanche.
The earthquake was felt in Terre Blanche, where the Clinic of Hope is located. There were no initial reports of injuries or damage in that area.
However, news reports stated that people were killed and buildings were damaged in other areas of northwest Haiti. Much of the area in northwest Haiti is rural and not easily accessible.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
Monday, Oct. 8, 2918 – We’ve learned that several people with injuries caused by the earthquake have been treated at the Clinic of Hope since Saturday. These patients came from Gros-Morne, a city not far from Terre Blanche and where news reports say buildings were damaged and people were injured.
We are grateful for the consistent medical care available at the Clinic of Hope. We understand that these patients, and all the rest, are being well cared for by the staff there.
