Celebrating Haiti's Independence

I spent two weeks in Haiti working with an amazing team and returned in time to celebrate July 4th, Independence Day, here in the USA. The Fourth of July is a great time to reflect on our country and all that it means to those who live here.

In Haiti, I was told about the Haitian Flag Day and the pride Haitians take in their country. Haitians love their country and know what it took to gain their independence 213 year ago. This year, Elvire Bazilme, Pastor Delamy’s wife, organized a Flag Day for the community. She planned a parade, soccer tournaments, singing groups, dancing and a complete day of festivities. Of course there was lots of Haitian food.

Note: Several years ago the Multnomah Library in Portland, Oregon, donated their READ shirts, part of the 2012 summer reading program, to Haiti Foundation of Hope. You can see the students continue to love and wear these shirts!
