As a nurse, my employer and state licensing require me to complete a certain number of continuing education hours per year.
Healthcare is constantly changing and in order to provide excellent care it is essential to remain a lifelong learner. It is an investment in my career growth.
There are limitless opportunities for me here in the US: online courses, webinars, conferences, journal articles, etc. However, our Haitian counterparts are starved for educational opportunities like these. They are few and far between in Haiti.
The annual medical conference that has been developed at the Clinic of Hope is a lifeline for them. It encourages growth, shares new knowledge, allows for networking and provides an atmosphere of collaboration as these professionals seek to improve Haitian healthcare and culture.
How much did you pay for your last continuing education opportunity? I am attending an 8 hour conference this week and the cost is $125. The Clinic of Hope Medical Conference costs $20 per person.
For the cost of my 8 hours of education, I could afford to pay the tuition for 6 Haitian healthcare workers! In fact, I think that is exactly what I will do.
Does anyone else want to join me? You can make an online tax-deductible donation of any amount directly to Haiti Foundation of Hope.
