Final in the series that introduces the Core Values that guide the decisions and work of Haiti Foundation of Hope.
Sustainability – 6th Core Value
“We discern financial decisions keeping HFH’s current and long-term capacity in mind. We value funding efforts that encourage sustainability and build local capacity. We prioritize development over relief.”
I am proud to volunteer for an organization where almost 97% of the money donated goes directly to Haiti. This is not by accident.
As a Board, and as an organization, we value every single dollar that is given. The budget process takes several months to work through and every decision is given a high priority. Sometimes we must make difficult decisions which are often accompanied by prayers and asking for guidance.
At the end of the day, our hope is to support our friends in and around Terre Blanche, to assure we have the financial resources to continue support for the long-term, and to assist those in Haiti in their decision-making which will lead to economic growth and eventual self-support.
When immediate relief services are needed, Haiti Foundation of Hope will step up and help, but we realize that only through economic growth and development will Terre Blanche one day become self-sufficient.
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:10-12
