On October 25, the Clinic of Hope/Markee Maternity Center hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The goals for the day were awareness, training, detection and follow-up. October is recognized globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Posters were made with the title Terre Blanche en Rosé (in pink). The clinic was decorated in pink with arches of pink and white balloons. The clinic staff were all wearing pink ribbons and many were wearing pink clothing.
Seventy women participated, starting and endingthe day with meals served by Madam Elvire and her team. A representative from the Haitian Ministry of Health attended and was optimistic and positive about what he saw. He congratulated the staff and leadership.
We are very thankful for and proud of the Clinic of Hope staff. In addition to providing acute care during this difficult time, they are also providing valuable education and awareness to women in the community about the importance of breast screening exams and early detection of breast cancer.
