The school children are not the only ones in Terre Blanche who are back in school, the Women’s Trade School has begun its year as well. Eighteen women were in class on October 28th and, according to Pastor Delamy, more will be coming soon.
The instructors, Madam Aloude and Madam Samantha, teach the curriculum for this three-year national program which includes: sewing, designing clothes, crafting, cooking with an understanding of nutrition, professional cleaning, raising children, decorating and entertaining. A national exam is taken upon completion of the program.
During every graduation ceremony, each graduate is presented with a sewing machine as a tool for life. Supporters of Haiti Foundation of Hope have given so these sewing machines can be purchased. (Treadle sewing machines that are purchased in Haiti.)
As the women learn to sew, they can sell clothing and other items to help support themselves and their families. The skills they learn can change the lives of their entire family and give hope for a future.
Madam Aloude has been faithfully teaching at the school since its beginning in 2002. Madam Samantha was in the first graduating class of the Terre Blanche Women’s Trade School. Both are well-liked and respected by their students and we are grateful for their dedication to this successful program that has graduated 99 women.
