Out of Sad News Comes Good News: For many years, Cuba has placed doctors and provided services in Haiti. Sadly, Cuba has recently pulled out all staff and closed medical facilities in Port-au-Prince and northern Haiti for the first time since the 1960s.
The Medical Director of the Ministry of Health in Port-au-Prince contacted Pastor Delamy about the medical equipment left behind. Pastor Delamy and the Clinic of Hope medical committee examined the list to see what could be purchased for use at the Clinic of Hope and the almost finished Markee Maternity Center.
The medical equipment purchased filled two large trucks and recently arrived in Terre Blanche. We praise God for the safe delivery of this equipment as travel and transporting items is dangerous now.
The equipment included X-ray and ultrasound machines, hospital beds and other laboratory equipment. Much of this is needed to complete and furnish the Markee Maternity Center. As part of the plan, a technician from these facilities will be coming to Terre Blanche to help set up the equipment and train staff.
We are saddened to hear that the Cuban government is departing the above-mentioned areas of Haiti but we are blessed and thankful for God’s provision of this valuable equipment. Funds from the Markee Legacy Project were used to purchase this equipment. Thank you to donors who already gave to the fund which allowed HFH to take advantage of this unexpected opportunity.
We are thankful as we see God’s hand in all of this and look forward to seeing the Markee Maternity Center completed and providing care.
