On Saturday, October 19th, Terre Blanche joined the rest of the world in wearing pink to raise awareness for breast cancer. The event, titled, “Terre Blanche en Rose/Terre Blanche in Pink” was held to provide women with tools for early detection and prevention. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer globally and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women.
The Clinic of Hope staff and community health volunteers coordinated efforts for this large screening event. To start the day, Dr. Dortilus, a friend and colleague of Dr. Jadotte, gave a presentation to the staff, community health volunteers and patients who had gathered.
Over 100 women were seen that day, with plans to continue screenings the following week to ensure all patients were seen. Dr. Montumaire performed the screenings with the help of the butterfly ultrasound, which has become an invaluable tool. Several women have follow-up appointments.
Many thanks to the Clinic of Hope staff for taking action to meet the needs of those they are serving by hosting this event and providing screenings and education on this important health issue facing too many women in the world.

After hearing the report of Terre Blanche en Rose, Linda Markee responded with these words:
In 2004, following a series of devastating floods that caused much suffering, we were with a team in Terre Blanche.
Team members remember the desperate woman who came into the clinic with a fulminating breast cancer. Most of us had never seen breast cancer at this advanced stage. Sadly, we had nothing to offer her except prayers and Tylenol for the pain. We stopped the clinic, gathered around her, laid hands of love on her, wept, and prayed together. A few years later, one of the team members told me, “I’ll never forget that day – it was the saddest day of my life!”
Today, we rejoice with the Clinic of Hope staff because now, besides a 24/7 clinic, there are community health workers, medical education, prevention and hope!
