As a refresher:
- The solar power project was introduced in June 2025 with “Here Comes the Sun . . .” when we shared the vision of bringing reliable solar power to Terre Blanche. Read the article.
- In February 2026, we followed up with “Waiting on the Sun . . .” sharing an update as the project moved closer to reality. Read the article.
- Now, we’re excited to share the next chapter: “The Sun Has Arrived . . .” We are gathering stories and highlights from the project and will be sharing them in a series of articles.
Steve Bressler, HFH board member reflects on his original solar power idea from 2014:
There is an old adage that says, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.”
Back in 2014, I had a great plan: use solar power to run the medical clinic in Terre Blanche, Haiti. All I needed to power everything were two laptops, ten LED bulbs and four fans. I took four solar panels into Haiti as checked baggage, confident that we had enough power to meet the clinic’s needs.
I don’t think it was even a year before the clinic’s power demands exceeded what those four solar panels could provide. At least I got the “use solar power” part right.
Recently, a large solar power installation was completed at Terre Blanche by a group called Brighten Haiti. This project represents the completion of HFH’s efforts to use solar power for lighting, pumping water and cooking. Not only will the medical clinic have reliable power, but, for the first time, the school classrooms will be lighted as well.
It has been a big encouragement to everyone in Terre Blanche. On behalf of the HFH Board, I want express my sincere thanks for your support that made this possible. We look forward to continuing to share the benefits of this project in Terre Blanche.
